The Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra (UMSU) has officially collaborated with the Walisongo State Islamic University (UIN) Semarang. The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was carried out directly by the Head of OIF UMSU, Dr. Arwin Juli Rakhmadi Butar-Butar, MA (Head of OIF UMSU) and Deputy Chancellor III for Student Affairs, Cooperation and Alumni at UIN Walisongo Semarang, Dr. H. A. Hasan Asy’ari Ulama’i, M.A, Thursday (26/7) at the Walisongo State Islamic University (UIN) Semarang.
Both agreed to increase collaboration in the field of astronomy, considering that both UMSU and UIN Walisongo have relevant departments or study programs, as well as facilities such as observatories and planetariums.
One of the concrete results of this collaboration is the planned collaborative research on astronomy in Egypt from August to September. The joint research team from the two universities will study astronomical manuscripts from the 8th Hijri/14th century CE at three leading manuscript centers in Egypt, namely the Arabic Manuscript Institute Library, Al-Azhar Library, and Dar al-Kutub al-Mishriyyah.
It is hoped that this collaboration will enrich the treasures of knowledge, especially in the field of Islamic astronomy, as well as strengthen academic relations between Indonesia and Egypt. Apart from research collaboration, both parties will also explore various other activities related to Astrology.
