MEDAN — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (FISIP UMSU), in collaboration with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), hosted an international cross-border sharing session titled “From Campus to the Community: Sharing Students Experiences and Contributions.” Held from 09:45 AM to 11:55 AM WIB, the program brought together students, student leaders, and institutional representatives to examine how classroom learning translates into impactful community action and social contribution.
The morning agenda featured prominent student speakers from both universities, highlighting international peer-to-peer knowledge exchange. Representing UUM were Nur Alieya Qistina binti Sharol Azlan and Nurilma Dalila binti Amerudin, who shared their experiences alongside FISIP UMSU student delegates: Muhammad Nafis (Communication Science, 5th Semester), Wahid Ismail (Public Administration, 5th Semester), and Putri Aprila (Social Welfare, 5th Semester). Serving in a dual role, Muhammad Nafis also guided the event smoothly as both MC and Moderator.
The structured session encompassed welcoming remarks, student-led presentations, an interactive Q&A forum, and cultural activities aimed at building stronger bonds among ASEAN youth leaders. By exploring practical community engagement models, participants gained actionable insights into leveraging academic training for societal development and regional youth empowerment.
This collaborative initiative directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically supporting SDG 4 (Quality Education) by broadening student learning beyond traditional classrooms through practical community leadership, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by promoting student-led community action, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening cross-border academic ties between Indonesia and Malaysia.
