On February 25, 2026, international students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), accompanied by the Office of International Affairs & Cooperation (OIC) UMSU, conducted an educational port visit to PT Pelindo Multi Terminal at Medan Belawan. The activity was organized as part of an experiential learning initiative aimed at enhancing students’ global perspectives through direct industry exposure.
The delegation consisted of international students from diverse academic backgrounds alongside representatives of OIC UMSU, and was warmly welcomed by Mr. Budy Setiawan, Senior Vice President of Human Resources Planning and Management at PT Pelindo Multi Terminal. The welcoming session introduced participants to the company’s operational structure, corporate vision, and strategic contributions to Indonesia’s maritime logistics sector.
The visit was held to provide students with practical insights into port operations, management systems, and logistics coordination within one of Indonesia’s key maritime gateways. Through this engagement, students were able to better understand the crucial role of ports in strengthening national connectivity, facilitating international trade, and supporting sustainable economic growth.
The program was implemented through corporate presentations, guided facility tours, and interactive discussion sessions between company representatives and participants. These activities enabled students to observe real-world operational processes while engaging in meaningful dialogue regarding industry challenges, workforce management, and future opportunities in the maritime sector.
Through this port visit, UMSU reaffirmed its commitment to providing international students with experiential and industry-based learning opportunities that bridge academic knowledge with professional practice. The activity also strengthened collaboration between higher education and industry partners in fostering globally aware graduates equipped with practical insights into Indonesia’s strategic economic sectors.
