In a concerted effort to combat narcotics, the National Narcotics Board (BNN) of North Sumatra and Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) have officially strengthened their collaboration in the prevention, eradication, abuse, and illicit trafficking of narcotics (P4GN). This commitment was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 13th, signifying a mutual dedication to tackling drug-related issues through education, research, and law enforcement initiatives.
The signing ceremony was attended by prominent representatives from both institutions. UMSU’s Rector, Prof. Agussani, M.AP, was represented by Vice-Rector III, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si, while BNN North Sumatra was represented by its Head, Drs. Toga Habinsaran Panjaitan. The event also saw participation from other higher education institutions, including Universitas Medan Area (UMA), Institut Bisnis IT&B, Institut Kesehatan Helvetia, and STMIK Triguna Dharma, highlighting a broader commitment to fostering a drug-free academic environment.
This collaboration encompasses a range of strategic initiatives, including joint research projects, public outreach programs, and specialized training sessions aimed at increasing awareness about the dangers of narcotics. By engaging students, faculty members, and the wider community, this partnership seeks to promote more effective prevention measures and contribute to the overall national strategy against drug abuse.
Furthermore, the cooperation between BNN and UMSU aims to enhance law enforcement capabilities in addressing narcotics-related crimes. Through educational programs and the dissemination of accurate information, the initiative aspires to equip stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills to combat drug abuse and illegal trafficking more effectively.
The signing of this MoU marks a pivotal step in the ongoing efforts of BNN and UMSU to realize a drug-free Indonesia. It underscores the vital role of academic institutions in supporting national policies and fostering a society that is resilient against the threats posed by narcotics.
