Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) officially dispatched eight students to participate in the ASEAN Student Experiential Mobility Programme (ASEMO) @ Multimedia University (MMU) 2026 in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. The send-off ceremony was held on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 2:00 PM WIB in the Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, UMSU.
The eight students represent the Law, Management, and Communication Studies programs. Their participation in this international mobility initiative aligns with UMSU’s ongoing efforts to broaden students’ academic exposure, enhance cross-cultural competencies, and reinforce the university’s internationalization goals.
ASEMO @ MMU 2026 carries the theme “AI & Creativity: Exploring the Future of Innovation.” Organized by Multimedia University in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, the program brings together students from across ASEAN universities through a series of academic lectures, collaborative discussions, and cultural immersion.
The entire program spans from October 18 to 31, 2026, comprising online sessions from October 18–27 and on-campus activities at MMU from October 28–31, 2026.
Throughout the program, participants engage in sessions centered on artificial intelligence (AI), creativity, and innovation. The curriculum covers real-world AI applications, prompt engineering, AI-assisted digital content creation, creative problem-solving, as well as sessions addressing ethics, copyright, and AI governance in creative industries.
Beyond classroom learning, participants have the opportunity to connect with peers across the ASEAN region, experience MMU’s academic environment, and explore Malaysian culture. This international exposure is intended to broaden students’ horizons while honing their communication, collaboration, and adaptability skills in a global setting.
UMSU leadership emphasized the importance of support from faculty and department heads to motivate the participating students. Institutional backing plays a vital role in strengthening academic partnerships and sustaining UMSU’s internationalization drive.
The participation of UMSU students in ASEMO @ MMU 2026 also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education by expanding experiential learning opportunities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through cross-border academic interaction and collaboration.
From a higher education performance standpoint, this program directly supports student off-campus learning experiences.
By joining this international program, UMSU aims to continually encourage students to develop academic competencies, creative thinking, technological literacy, and a global mindset—equipping them to contribute meaningfully to science, society, and the global workforce.
