International students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) proudly participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of Masjid K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Integrated UMSU Campus located on Jalan Dwikora, Saentis Village, Percut Sei Tuan, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. The event brought together university leaders, government officials, Muhammadiyah representatives, and members of the academic community to witness the beginning of an important spiritual development at UMSU.
The ceremony marked a historic milestone for UMSU as the university continues to strengthen its commitment to integrating Islamic values with academic excellence and global engagement. The first stone was symbolically laid by several prominent national and regional figures, including Muhadjir Effendy, Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah and Special Presidential Advisor for Hajj Affairs; Agussani, Rector of UMSU; Hasyimsyah Nasution, Chairman of PWM North Sumatra; Anggoro Eko Cahyo, President Director of Bank Syariah Indonesia; Surya, Vice Governor of North Sumatra; and Lom Lom Suwondo, Vice Regent of Deli Serdang.
The participation of international students highlighted UMSU’s inclusive and multicultural academic environment, demonstrating how global learners are actively involved in significant institutional and religious milestones. The construction of Masjid K.H. Ahmad Dahlan is envisioned as a future center for worship, education, character development, and community unity, serving not only the UMSU academic community but also the wider society. Through this groundbreaking event, UMSU reaffirmed its mission to foster spirituality, leadership, and collaboration within an international academic setting.
