Melaka, Malaysia–A total of 17 lecturers from the Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI) of the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra (UMSU) took part in an International Conference activity held at the Universiti Islam Melaka (UNIMEL), Malaysia. The seventeen lecturers of FAI UMSU who were spread across the MBS, PBS, PAI, PIAUD and IlMU FALAK Study Programs were Rahmayati, Syahrul Amsari, Ahmad Afandi, Alfi Amalia, Muhammad Hidayat, Isra Hayati, Pani Akhiruddin Siregar, Muhammad Ruslan, Oktrigana Wirian, Muhammad Arifin Lubis, Zuliana, Asmaul Husna, Olivia, Niswa, Nurul, Abd Rahman and Mavianti
This event took place on September 11, 2024 at the Main Campus of Universiti Islam Melaka, with the main theme “Sharia and Law”.
The conference was attended by academics and researchers from various countries, who discussed current issues in the development of Islamic education, social, Islamic economics, law and culture in the digital era. The participation of UMSU lecturers in this international forum is part of an effort to strengthen academic networks, deepen scientific studies, and increase the contribution of Islamic education in the global arena.
UMSU Chancellor Prof. Dr. Agussani, M.AP. said that the involvement of UMSU FAI lecturers in international forums like this is an important step in developing lecturer capacity. “This is a great opportunity to exchange ideas, broaden horizons, and build collaboration with international universities in the development of Islamic education,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Dean of UMSU FAI Assoc Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qorib, MA strongly supports and appreciates the activities participated in by UMSU FAI Lecturers. “I am very proud of the Internationalization activities carried out by FAI lecturers as a form of supporting FAI International programs, especially UMSU,” he said.
One of the lecturers of FAI UMSU Muhammad Hidayat who presented the results of his research on “Problem and Solution for accepting a single global Islamic calendar” said that this conference provided many benefits, especially in understanding the challenges and opportunities of digitalization in the Islamic education system. “Through this forum, we can learn from the experiences of other countries and find solutions that are relevant to the context of education in Indonesia,” he added.
Universiti Islam Melaka (UNIMEL) itself is known as one of the leading universities in Malaysia, which often holds international scientific conferences to support research and development of science, especially in the fields of religion, economics, law and society.
By participating in this conference, it is hoped that FAI UMSU lecturers can bring inspiration and scientific study results that can be implemented in the development of the curriculum and Islamic education programs at UMSU, in order to improve the quality of competent and globally-minded graduates.
