Medan, Indonesia — In a continued effort to foster international collaboration, the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. Martono Anggusti, paid an official visit to Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) on Friday, May 23, 2025. The visit marks a significant step toward enhancing bilateral cooperation across key sectors such as tourism, education, and healthcare.
The Honorary Consul was warmly received by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, M.Si, UMSU Vice-Rector III, in a cordial meeting held in the VIP Room of UMSU’s main campus on Jalan Muchtar Basri No.3, Medan.
Also present at the meeting were Eryanto, Secretary to the Honorary Consul in Medan; Dr. Cut Novita Srikandi, M.Hum, Head of UMSU’s Indonesian Language Program for Foreign Speakers (BIPA); Rafieqah Nalar Rizky, M.A, Head of the Office of International Affairs and Cooperation (OIAK); and several other staff members actively involved in UMSU’s internationalization initiatives.
In his address, Mr. Martono Anggusti emphasized his strong commitment to following up on strategic international cooperation initiatives with UMSU. He outlined a number of priority programs to be developed collaboratively, highlighting opportunities in student and academic exchanges, tourism-related cultural programs, and joint health sector initiatives.
“This visit is not only a form of diplomacy but also a platform to build concrete programs that benefit both institutions and our broader communities,” he said.
UMSU, which has steadily increased its global footprint in recent years, welcomed the opportunity to expand cooperation with Thailand. Dr. Rudianto expressed his gratitude for the visit and affirmed UMSU’s readiness to support joint programs and establish sustainable partnerships.
This visit is seen as a vital step in strengthening regional connectivity and mutual understanding between Thailand and Indonesia, particularly through educational and cultural collaboration.
