Medan, Indonesia — What a vibrant and inspiring day of global connection at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU)! On [insert date], UMSU had the honor of hosting Temasek Polytechnic Singapore for a special academic visit that celebrated dialogue, discovery, and meaningful cross-cultural engagement.
The program began with a warm welcome and a thought-provoking seminar presented by Mrs. Dewi Kesuma, Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Science Education. Her presentation explored the education system in Indonesia, offering insights into local pedagogical practices and national educational goals. The seminar provided a valuable perspective for the visiting delegation, creating space for critical dialogue and academic reflection.
Following the seminar, an interactive talk show took place, bringing together students from UMSU’s Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) program and their counterparts from Temasek Polytechnic. Under the theme “Fun Learning Through Local Wisdom,” participants shared educational experiences and discussed how cultural heritage can be integrated into creative learning methodologies. This session directly supported the vision of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing across borders.
The visit continued with a guided campus tour, where 35 students from Temasek Polytechnic explored some of UMSU’s most iconic academic spaces. Highlights included the PUSKIBI language development center and UMSU’s international-themed library corners, dedicated to countries such as Singapore, Japan, and France, showcasing the university’s commitment to global education and cultural understanding.
The day concluded with an exchange of gifts between the two institutions, symbolizing mutual appreciation, friendship, and a shared commitment to future collaboration in education and research.
