Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) marked a significant step toward global collaboration by hosting a public lecture in partnership with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), highlighting a shared commitment to advancing sustainable food systems. The event featured Dato’ Dr. H. Mohamad Zabawi bin Abdul Ghani, Director General of MARDI, as the keynote speaker, bringing international expertise and insight into the discussion.
The lecture took place at UMSU, Indonesia, as part of the university’s ongoing efforts to strengthen global engagement and academic exchange. Attended by students, academics, and institutional representatives, the session served as a platform to explore critical issues surrounding the future of global food systems in an increasingly complex and climate-challenged world.
Under the theme “Shaping the Future of Global Food Systems: Innovation, Sustainability, and Youth Leadership,” the event emphasized the importance of innovation and sustainable practices in agriculture, while also highlighting the vital role of youth in driving change. Dato’ Dr. Zabawi shared his extensive experience in agricultural research, climate resilience, and policy development, inspiring participants to think critically and act proactively.
This collaboration between UMSU and MARDI demonstrates how academic institutions and research organizations can work together to address global challenges. Through knowledge sharing, dialogue, and international cooperation, the initiative empowers students to gain broader perspectives and actively contribute to building a more sustainable and resilient future for global food systems.
